Why Facebook and Ray-ban’s new collaboration is noteworthy.

Over the years we have seen many ‘smart glasses’, Snapchat made one (Or at least tried to), Google tried to make one too, and even Bose has come up with their smart glasses(which are mainly for audio).

Most smart glasses were unable to seize the market, they couldn’t offer the perfect user experience and unfortunately, most of them aren’t around today. Some that are, like the Bose Frames, only tick very specific boxes and aren’t that well rounded, and are only used for very specific purposes. That being said, however, Facebook and Ray-Ban have released an all-new product- “Stories”.

The Stories are more of an all-in-one. They. Have. Everything. (Almost). The stories have dual 5 MP cameras, for photo and video. They have a built-in microphone (well actually three of them) and speakers, so you can make and receive calls on the go and listen to music. Touch controls make it easy to control the volume, play and pause, skip tracks and do so much more. And guess what, like your favourite wireless earbuds, they come in a charging case that has extra juice, so you can charge them anywhere. The new Facebook View App acts as a hub for the Stories to store, edit, and export all your photos and videos to, well everywhere. Best of all they will last you for about six hours and using your case, you can change them three more times before you have to call it a day. Design options and plenty too, with three frames and many different colours and lenses to choose from. All at the price of $299.

The glasses aren’t perfect though, the cheap plastic isn’t ideal. There aren’t any special nose holders, and for some people, it might be uncomfortable.

All things considered, the Stories are just something different and they are a grand way to kick off a transition into the upcoming world of smart glasses that very well might replace our phones sooner than we think.
