GoPro makes some of the best action cameras in the world. And when you’re a company as big as GoPro, there’s a lot of pressure every year to make something new and better. To be honest, sometimes the upgrades made weren’t as good as you’d expect. But the GoPro Hero 10 Black is probably the best action camera ever made, and not by a slim margin either.

What’s new?
The GoPro Hero 9 was almost perfect. It was better than every single smartphone camera at the time, and it was small and rugged, making a product that the market never knew it needed. The Hero 9 wasn’t perfect though, but the Hero 10 just might be. It doesn’t have the same mistakes the 9 did, and it might just be the perfect action camera.

On the outside, it looks the same as its predecessor, with some minor changes here and there. The branding which used to be a whitish-grey has now been replaced by an electric blue, which provides a stark difference between the Hero 9 and its successor. But the magic is on the inside, with the camera now shooting in a ‘Natural’ color mode, which sets it aside from the previous models. The ‘Natural’ mode is pretty much awesome, the colour representation is on point and it definitely isn’t too contrasty or too washed out, in short, it reproduces colours much better than before. The Hero 10 also works better in low light, and the stabilization has gotten even better( it was really good before). It can shoot 5.3K at 60 fps and maximum stabilization, and 4K at 120fps (the latter of which gives you AMAZING slow motion shots). The frame rates are DOUBLE that of Hero 9, which gives users an amazing reason to upgrade. For Slow Motion lovers, there is now an option to shoot at 2.7K at 240 fps, and GoPro has hinted that software upgrades might enable shooting at up to 480fps in the future. There is an increase in shooting options over the previous model, and an upgraded touchscreen, that works way better than the Hero 9 and mostly every single other action camera on the market. They have also upgraded the chipset, with the new GP2 chipset, replacing the older GP1 chipset that many older Hero cameras sported. The GP2 chipset is here to stay, and GoPro will be using the chipset for the next few years at least. Photos can now be shot at 23.6 MP in all photo modes, with the previous Hero 9 allowing 23.6 MP to shoot only raw photos. The new Lens comes with a Hydrophobic coating, which is great for beach lovers and prevents water droplets from sticking to the lens. The new cameras allow for wired downloads, which is great for creators and casual videographers alike. GoPro has also enabled Hypersmooth 4.0 for Live Stream, so you can bring everyone on your adventures. The touch screen is way better, which can’t be said for the previous models.

Enough of the pros, let’s now talk about the cons. Pricing is probably the major one, with the price going up by 50 dollars more than the Hero 9. Now placing the camera at $399 for a GoPro subscriber and $499 for those that haven’t subscribed to GoPro. The improvements might be considered substantial by some, but for many daily users, the 500 dollar price tag isn’t enough to justify the added features. The same goes for vloggers for example, with not many new vlogger essential features being added to the 10 when compared to the 9, vloggers that already use the Hero9 probably won’t find the 10 a justifiable buy. The Hero10 also doesn’t have the anticipated bigger sensor, which(fingers crossed) might come next year, making the wait more sensible for many. Most people don’t need the high frame rates, and for them, it just doesn’t make sense. For tracking and recording memories, the 9 does just as good; if you use it for sports recording, the extra frame rate may just make sense. If you have a GoPro six or older though, the replacement might just make sense.

Overall, the GoPro Hero 10 makes sense for older GoPro users, but for Hero9 users, the wait for the 11 might be worth it. The GoPro Hero 10 is, in our opinion the best GoPro ever made, and one of the best action cameras you can buy for the price. The camera is small and versatile and good for those wanting high quality, without the hassle and expense of mirrorless or digital SLR cameras. Whether you need to take photos and videos or your travel, a way to capture memories, or an action camera to push to the limits, the Hero10 is for you!
